East Hampton, Connecticut is located in Middlesex County. It was known as Chatham until 1915. The town has 36.8 square miles and is home to about 11,600 people. It is the site of the largest lake in the state of Connecticut, Lake Pocotopaug. You will find the Salmon River running near the southern border of the town, and the Connecticut River as its western boundary. It is still very much a rural and suburban town.
Chatham was first settled in 1710. In 1767 it was incorporated as it's own town and seperated from the town of Middletown, CT. East Hampton was home to the country's first factory dedicated to manufacturing bells. It is now known for industrial nets, witch hazel and tool and die making.
East Hampton is run by a Council-Manager form of government with an elected seven-number Town Council and the Town Meeting. The day-to-day administrative duties are handled by the Town Manager, who is appointed by the Town Council.
The town consists of 3 villages; East Hampton, Middle Haddam and Cobalt. There are 4 schools and 8 churches of varying denominations.
